THE DANGER OF MIND CONTROL
Can the human mind be controlled? Analysts believe that manipulation of the mind is possible. The primary questions arise over which techniques truly work, and whether there are consistent mechanical or psychological controls.
The British manipulation artist Derren Brown, convinced a London Cabbie that he didn’t know where the London Eye was, one of the most significant central London tourist locations, while he was driving past it. This demonstrates the troubling proposition that we may not be entirely in control of our thoughts and memories.
There are implications that subliminal mind control is mechanically possible through the use of a technique that involves flashing brief sub-consciously noticeable images or words in front of test subjects. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/03/070308121938.htm For example, flashing an image of the “Disney” logo has been shown to inspire people to be more honest in one study. Can images really change the way we think and behave, or is it all just “smoke and mirrors”?

There’s actually a good amount of evidence to support the theory that we can manipulate people through subconscious thought and through imagery. I don’t have time to look up the stuff in detail, but those Wiki had some really good information on mind control and subliminal messaging. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subliminal_message We’ve actually referred people from our clinic to see a hypno-therapist before to help them deal with a whole range of issues from smoking to post traumatic stress disorder.

I’ve discovered alot thru the experience of my own mind.I have a schizophrenic disorder, and have experienced every symptom of mental illness, including severe OCD.Over the years,I have been able to somehow reprogram my brain, from within. It is obscure,it was tricky, but it works. Now I keep changing, like a computer anti-virus program updates. We are not in full control of our minds, especially when they go astray…..

I must agree that controlling the mind is quite possible. As Mr. Death stated above, there are ways to program the brain, through Neuro-Linguistic Programing, or NLP. Where one can Anchor certain feelings or states of being to touch, words or objects. Its not mental domination but it is a type of manipulation of the mind, additionally one can as Mr. Death stated reprogram one’s own brain, to overcome anxiety and self esteem issues.

I have ann 11 year old son that has been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, Autism, and ADD. He drives me crazy with his mind games. He needs to be in control all the time. He’s on trileptal and celexa. When he is mad at me, he talks about killing me. Should I ignore his comments and treat it as manipulation or could there be truth in his words. Since he was a little boy, he’s had a different mantality-almost dark, but he does have kindness in him. I’m scared that if I don’t give my son the proper help, he will go down the wrong path.

Wow Rose. That sounds frustrating. Honestly, it’s only going to help your son to get him the proper help, and as he continues to get older, if these threats aren’t idle, he may be a danger not only to you, but to others as well. Personally, I would get him the proper help.

Yes, minds CAN be controlled. absolutely, however I would encourage Rose to take a very active roll in the pursuit of better ways to deal with her son. I was in the presence of a “Bi-Polar, ADHD 11 year old” yesterday. I am not certain of the medication this child is taking but I can assure you if he were mine, he would be taking nothing. In my opinion, which is NOT professional, in the past several years Medications enable the child to control the Parent. If he pulls your chain he uses mind “games” to his own advantage. All it took to calm the 11 year old I was around yesterday was a firm no followed with the fact he had no reason or “right” to question an adult. Parental control is the Best Medicine. If you think he needs medication now…wait until he is older and bigger than you for a real Mental Problem. Physicians, in my opinion, fall back to drugs far to easily these days. A child needs to hear no once in a while, rather than the parent folding control to the “Abuse” excuse. Mine received love as well as discipline.
